On behalf of the WNGH we are very pleased to announce that $50,000 was donated from the WNGH Foundation for the purchase of our new IV smart pumps. Essentially, these smart pumps are computerized and a major advancement in safe administration of medication. Our decision to purchase IV smart pumps for the WNGH was based on quality improvement, patient safety and best practices. This is one among many initiatives that will prevent medication errors. These IV pumps will be used in all departments throughout the hospital including oncology, palliative care, acute medicine and of course in our Emergency Room.
The IV smart pumps are quite expensive, as the standards pumps are approximately $3650, and the software for the pumps is an additional $57, 115. Thus far, we have purchased 20 pumps, once they are set up and in circulation, we are looking to purchase another 9 pumps!
With that said, this $50,000 from the Foundation has really kick-started our purchase and will permit us to purchase some additional pumps. The staff and patients will greatly appreciate these new pumps, given that our current pumps are quite outdated. On behalf of the hospital, we are very pleased with the efforts of the WNGH Foundation and the contributions by so many community members that have made this purchase possible.

Wednesday, January 28th, marked the official grand opening of the new Palliative Care room at The WNGH. It can only be described as a 5 star room; nothing but the best for our LTC residents. This room came together beautifully and a result of our LTC staff “dreaming” about a special place for our residents in their final days. This idea materialized through generous donations from patients, families and the community. A special thank you is extended to Vianny Morin our contractor extraordinaire for his special touches; he certainly puts our patients first. We also thank Charles Goulard of Goulard Building Supplies and his designer Derrek for the elegant decorating ideas. Our products came from various local vendors including Goulard Builders (cabinets, lighting, building material, paint), Sturgeon Falls Carpet (Flooring) Discount Blinds (window blinds) Sears (love seat & ottoman). This has truly been a team effort at its best, and to think it started with an idea from our LTC staff!!!On behalf of the WNGH I present to you the new LTC Palliative Care Room.
